raise a puppy, change a life

Become a Puppy Raiser

Puppy raisers are the backbone of our team. They help to care for, train, and socialize future service dogs for the first 12-18 months before they begin advanced training and are matched with a disabled member of the community.

We provide:

Group training classes

Attend bi-weekly classes to learn new skills and socialize your puppy.

Vet care

We provide all necessary veterinary care for the dogs in our program.

1-on-1 support

We provide on-going support to puppy raisers, including 1-on-1 meet ups.

Food and training supplies

All food and training supplies are provided by K9 Lifelines.

What is your role as a puppy raiser?

  • Provide positive socialization opportunities for your puppy in the form of training outings.
  • Open your home to provide a warm, safe, and trusting environment for a puppy to grow.
  • Work with your puppy to learn basic obedience, build training foundations, and teach house manners.
  • Follow guidelines provided by K9 Lifelines staff.

Become a Puppy Sitter

Puppy sitters provide critical support to our Puppy Raisers and our Trainer. They allow staff and volunteers to take a break, provide opportunities for evaluation, and help our puppies get comfortable in new homes.

If you are interested in being a part of a Service Dog’s journey, but aren’t ready for the commitment of raising, puppy sitting might be the perfect opportunity for you!
